School Gardens

Our involvement with schools has gained serious momentum and today is a major portion of the garden work we do. Our approach is not just to build and maintain a productive vegetable garden, but to implement sustainable “edible education” programming that connects the classroom to the food growing outdoors. An edible school garden can enhance the teaching of traditional subjects like math, science, and art, as well as some of life’s larger lessons like environmental stewardship and healthy eating habits. We are thrilled to be a part of the edible education movement developing throughout Chicagoland and the nation.

At TOG, we collaborate with the full school community – administrators, teachers, groundskeepers, parents, students – to help bring your ideas to life. We operate as a support network in whatever capacity makes sense for your project throughout the entire process. From brainstorm and design, to crop selection and planting, to lesson planning and instruction, we know what it takes to successfully integrate edible education into your school’s infrastructure. With a team of garden educators, we work together to craft programming tailored to your school’s unique vision.
